Toyoko Shimada was born in Shanghai in 1929 and raised there. In 1945, she left Shanghai with her parents and moved to Japan. She later lived in Germany before returning to Japan in 1975.

Toyoko Maeda was born in Shanghai in 1929 and spent her childhood and adolescence there.
She attended a Japanese elementary school and later a girls’ grammar school in Shanghai.

In mid-1945, Toyoko left Shanghai with her parents and moved to Japan.
KYOTO

Toyoko continued her secondary education at a girls’ grammar school in Kyoto.

She graduated from the school in Kyoto.
KOBE
From 1946
After completing her secondary education, Toyoko began studying pharmacy in Kobe.
After graduating, she worked as a pharmacist, initially for a rubber manufacturer in Osaka and later as a customs officer at the Port of Kobe.
OSAKA

Toyoko married Nobuo Shimada.
1957
Their son, Shingo Shimada, was born.
TOKYO

The family moved from Osaka to Tokyo.
NAGOYA

The family moved from Tokyo to Nagoya.
Their daughter, Kuniko Shimada, was born in the same year.
GERMANY
